Director, Shelter Operations

Management of Humane Society Silicon Valley's Animal Community Center Operations in Milpitas, Ca.:

Lead all aspects of animal operations to include the following disciplines: Adoptions at all HSSV locations (ACC and Neighborhood Adoption Centers), Community Outreach, Behavior & Intake, and Animal Care & Foster Programs.

Reporting directly to the Chief of Shelter Medicine, and indirectly to the Chief of Operations, this role will require both a strategic and operational focus, with strong leadership skills, process management, a customer service mind-set and a commitment to achieving strong mission results for HSSV as well as our Community.

Participate in the development of the organization's strategic plan. Develop plans, programs, and goals that support the overall strategic plan. Participate in special projects or other Humane Society team efforts as assigned. Actively support all cross-organizational teams to which assigned. Provide meaningful input and insight regarding Humane Society operations to other departments as needed or as opportunities are recognized. Lead or participate in process improvements and projects and assist in documentation of processes and training of staff as necessary. Develop & monitor the budget while continuously seeking cost-savings & procedural improvements.

SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

1. Prior experience in a customer-facing, operational role. Strong interpersonal, leadership, and problem solving skills required.
2. Animal shelter experience in some or all of the functional areas for which the leader is responsible and knowledge of animal welfare organizations best practices and associated challenges is desirable.
3. Previous management experience with proven strong leadership and management skills.
4. Proven ability to communicate effectively in English, both in written and verbal forms.
5. Proven ability to plan, organize, and execute projects successfully and timely. Experience with the use of spreadsheets, word processing, databases, etc.
6. Demonstrated interpersonal skills, maturity, & judgment. Demonstrated attitude of cooperation with others.
7. Broad understanding of Humane Society operations, programs, & policies.
8. Knowledge of financial management procedures, budgets, negotiation skills, & other administrative practices.
9. Highly self-motivated & able to work flexible hours, including weekends as necessary.
10. Demonstrated ability to work well without close supervision and to make independent
decisions.
